CHILDHOOD AND EARLY COLLEGE LIFE

The first installment of our “Remembering Gene” project covers Gene’s childhood—an interview withBert Wilson and stories from his sister, Ann England Barker. Then Alan Brown and Brent Eager take us to Gene’s basketball days in Edgehill Ward, and his close friends Floyd Astin and John Gary Maxwell (I’m still looking for Gary Christensen) describe their high school years together. Toby Pingree adds an anecdote about Gene as a failed sports writer at the University of Utah.

It’s at this point that Gene and I started our year-long courtship, got married, and served a mission to Samoa. I have chosen to do a separate account of our fifty years together in either book form (I hope people are still reading hard copy) or online. That work is now in process.
